This Place – Part 1

Many struggle to visit this place

Although little but great in intellectuals

Their fame cuts across oceans

The people are highly respected

One would think all the natural resources would be found here

No, it isn’t, but they make known their little successes

And even in the heart of a degrading society,

They prove to the media that they remain who they are

Lost in a foreign country,

With foreign cultures,

Foreign people,

Foreign language,

And most of all, Foreign “religious ways”

Sitting about three feet below ground in a moving vehicle,

At 8 am on a Monday morning

In one of the cities of this strange place

I look at the faces of those with polished and unpolished shoes,

The women, some still feeling drowsy from a long weekend,

While some trying to put some colour on their faces to hide the depression within

The hustle and bustle of people

The vehicle packed with huge number of people that it seem to overflow

Where are they all going?

It is a circle of life in this place

Although, they are well organised,

They live for their government

Every pence earned to bills, or paying someone who sits on the throne

It is a place where taxes are constantly on the increase

Where transportation prices hardly ever reduce

Where the poor get poorer and the rich richer

But they are who they are

A place where their intention is to rule everyone

Where the saying “Small but Mighty” is defined in full bloom

If given an opportunity, they will dominate the world

And make everyone pay to those on the throne

If possible, they would choose to rule the Man Above who created the heavens and the earth,

But Thank Goodness, it will never happen

I sit to think, why do people from certain part of the Continent where I come from struggle to live in a place like this?

True, education here is awesome (and stressful, I must admit),

Social amenities are epic here

But people live from hand to mouth especially a foreigner

I am a Foreigner in a Foreign land

And Home remains home

Where you’ll be free and happy
